“Athletes Helping Athletes” Society Aims to Unite All Generations of Former Student-Athletes
The Ohio State University Varsity O Alumni Society, driven by its mission of “Athletes Helping Athletes,” is expanding its vision to foster stronger connections and build a unified community among Buckeye alumni athletes from all generations. With a focus on increasing engagement and facilitating direct communication with the Varsity O Board, the society is gearing up for an exciting future that will further benefit the entire Buckeye alumni athlete network.
To bring this vision to life, The Ohio State Department of Athletics has teamed up with The Ohio State University Alumni Association to create a dynamic strategy designed to unite Ohio State student-athletes across generations. This collaborative effort will focus on impactful programs, leadership opportunities, and enhanced support for the lifelong Buckeye community.
A key element in this initiative is the introduction of a new role – Director of Varsity O (Consultant of Engagement and Alumni Relations) – now open for applications. This position will play a pivotal role in engaging and connecting alumni athletes. Individuals with experience in collegiate athletics and/or alumni relations are encouraged to apply and contribute to shaping a more unified Varsity O that honors Buckeye traditions, celebrates excellence, and creates lasting impact.
Ross Bjork, Senior Vice President and Wolfe Foundation-Eugene Smith Endowed Athletics Director, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative: “The addition of resources for Varsity O will provide more avenues for alumni to engage through networking events, mentorship programs, community outreach, and exclusive member experiences. Above all, the new leadership structure empowers former student-athletes to take an active role in steering Varsity O toward its fullest potential.”
Molly Ranz Calhoun, President and CEO of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, and Senior Vice President of Engagement, also expressed her excitement about the new partnership: “We’re thrilled to partner with the Department of Athletics to establish this dedicated position, which will help engage our alumni who continue to carry the pride of being Buckeyes.”
The Varsity O Alumni Society serves as a connection point for student-athletes who have earned at least one varsity letter, offering a platform for events and programs that strengthen the alumni network. Additionally, the society supports current student-athletes through scholarships and donations, ensuring a lasting legacy for Buckeye athletes across generations.
