Beyond the Field: BGSU’s Program for Student-Athletes

For most student-athletes, the final whistle of their college career is the end of their athletic journey. Recognizing this, Bowling Green State University has created a new program to help you win the game of life. The Athletics Life Design Mentorship Program is designed to help student-athletes prepare for life after sports.

A Roadmap for Your Future

The program is a comprehensive curriculum that helps students navigate career exploration, decision-making, and critical thinking. It connects students to valuable resources and helps them develop the fundamental skills that are essential for life after graduation. As a runner in the program, Rachael Hoover said, “I’ve always had a life plan…But the Life Design Program has taught me to learn how to adjust to that.”

Confidence and Clarity

The program is already helping student-athletes find confidence and a sense of purpose. Alyse Sorg, a sophomore swimmer, explained that the program helps her see the “end goal” beyond her sport, which makes it easier to put in the effort in the classroom. As you know, balancing a 20-hour practice week with academics is a challenge, and this program helps you see the bigger picture.

According to the program’s director, the goal is to make sure students are successful long after their time on campus ends. The program helps you prepare for the unexpected so you always have a plan.
